Game of Thrones: Deleted Scene Provides Much Needed Clarity

The season finale of Game of Thrones had some satisfyingly inevitable moments. Whether it was Cersei faking a truce, or Jon and Dany having boat sex…

One story that did feel a little underdeveloped was Winterfell’s. Last we saw of Arya and Sansa, they were at each other’s throats. In the finale, Sansa seems intent on protecting herself against Arya. Of course, that’s an intentional misdirect, but some necessary plot points seemed to be missing.

In an interview with Variety, Bran Stark actor Isaac Hempstead Wright revealed that a scene between Bran and Sansa was cut. Here’s what Wright had to say:

We actually did a scene that clearly got cut, a short scene with Sansa where she knocks on Bran’s door and says, “I need your help,” or something along those lines. So basically, as far as I know, the story was that it suddenly occurred to Sansa that she had a huge CCTV department at her discretion and it might be a good idea to check with him first before she guts her own sister. So she goes to Bran, and Bran tells her everything she needs to know, and she’s like, “Oh, s—.”

The three Starks in Winterfell come down hard on Littlefinger. While it makes sense for the viewers to despise Littlefinger, it’s not clear how much each Stark knows about his many misdeeds. Many viewers probably assumed Sansa spoke to Bran before the impromptu trial, but the manner of that conversation could have been clarified. However, in an already packed 79-minute finale, the creators of course had to be economical with their time.

Still, it’s helpful to know Sansa and Bran are on the same level. Yay, family!
